Catching Fire Summary
Catching Fire’s book summary begins with Katniss and Peeta Mellark, who were the ‘tributes’ in Panem for the 74th Hunger Games. They won the Hunger Games, in the first book, and now they have returned to District 12. This is the poorest District in Panem. President Snow comes to Katniss and tells her that her acts of defiance were becoming a reason for rebellion in most parts of the country. People were rebelling against the oppressive Capitol.
He tells Katniss to make a public announcement to the country that her acts were not due to her opposition of the Capitol but due to her love for Peeta. If she does not do so, her whole family and best friend will be executed. Katniss does not share this with Peeta but does inform her mentor about it.
